Back in June, Rosemary reached out to me asking if I was available to photograph her intimate wedding at the Mast Farm Inn in August…of this same year! Only about 6 weeks away, to be exact. Rosemary and Matt had just gotten engaged in May and wanted to have a small mountain wedding in Boone, NC before the winter came. They kept the wedding guest count small, just inviting their closest friends and family.
Typically I would not be available only six weeks in advance, but I had left their wedding date free as it was my own wedding anniversary! I asked my husband if he was okay with me shooting a wedding on our anniversary: we would get to take a trip to Boone, plus Rosemary was an old friend from church. My ridiculously awesome husband agreed, so we made plans to go to Boone to photograph Rosemary and Matt’s small wedding!

Both the ceremony and reception were held at the Mast Farm Inn which is located in the town of Valle Crucis, just a 15 minute drive from Boone. If you’ve ever been to the Mast General Store, you might recognize the name. The properties were originally owned by the same family. The Mast Farm Inn was such a cute little spot for a small wedding. Rosemary and Matt were each able to stay at the Inn the night before the wedding, making an easy transition to getting ready in the morning.

In the early morning a dense fog hung low around the property. I arrived early to photograph some details and we all enjoyed the feel of a quiet mountain morning. Rosemary and Matt’s details were beautiful, featuring Tacori rings, Rothy’s shoes, and a Coach clutch.

Rosemary and Matt’s wedding ceremony was extra special, as it was officiated by Rosemary’s father. The ceremony was held on the lawn of the Mast Farm Inn at 10 in the morning. The sun broke through about an hour beforehand, but thankfully the large old trees around the property kept the heat away. Everyone enjoyed watching Rosemary make her way from the beautiful old Inn over to Matt.

Following the ceremony, we stayed on the lawn for a few portraits, then walked throughout the property for photos. Rosemary told me ahead of time that she was excited for portraits in the garden and by the river. The sun was hot in the garden that time of day, so we moved on to the river pretty quickly. The river was such a nice refuge from the August heat, and made for some stunning bride and groom portraits!

After finishing up the portraits, we headed back inside the Mast Farm Inn for lunch with Rosemary and Matt’s wedding guests. The Mast Farm Inn features in-house catering from their own restaurant, which made planning the wedding even easier!
I was so impressed with how fast this wedding was pulled together. While I love a big, fancy wedding, intimate weddings like this one remind us that we don’t need so much to get married. Maybe you don’t want a big crowd, or maybe you don’t have a large budget, but you are ready to get married. If that’s you, don’t feel bad! Rosemary and Matt’s wedding is an example that you can keep things simple, yet well done.
It was such a joy to photograph their day. Cheers to Rosemary and Matt!
