I know we’re entering fall now, but I am finally catching up on blogging some summer shoots, and I have to show you this Southern Coastal wedding styled shoot in Wilmington! To be honest, this shoot did not go as planned. We were originally supposed to take portraits on a sailboat in Wilmington, planned by my friend Victoria of Falling in Lovely Florals. The weather decided otherwise. Despite a clear forecast, the skies broke open about half an hour before the photo shoot was scheduled to begin. I was just arriving from Raleigh when I got a call — the sailboat owner had to cancel our appointment. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a time slot available the rest of the day.
Maybe the shoot would have been rescheduled, but our bride model, Alissa, had just finished up hair and makeup. Having just made the two-hour trip from Raleigh to Wilmington, and having a bride and groom ready to go (not to mention florals, a dress, and another photographer who would also be participating), we desperately started looking for somewhere to shoot. We wanted to be ready the moment the weather cleared.
Thankfully our other participating photographer had a connection with the owner of a gorgeous private home in the area. When we arrived we were blown away. The double porches and Spanish moss were a southern coastal dream! The home actually reminded me of several historic home wedding venues around North Carolina, but the Spanish moss gave us the Wilmington feel!
Once the rain cleared around lunch time, we were able to get to shooting, and in the end the results were amazing! Someday I’d love to participate in the original plan A on a sailboat, and I’m sorry the original vision did not come to life. However, in my opinion these photos were still well worth our time!
I hope you all enjoy looking through these images from our Southern Coastal styled shoot! While we had another participating photographer, all of the following are my images.
